The Research Group on Contemporary China is founded with the aim of gathering research and analysis on contemporary Chinese society and culture by applying a multidisciplinary approach to the research undertaking.

As 21st century China is moving up in the international arena, it is essential for scholars to look into the current development of the country. Due to the diversity of the members' expertise, which involves a wide and sound career that encompasses learning, teaching and researching into Sinology and East Asia studies, the study of society and culture in contemporary China can be tackled through a variety of academic fields (language, literature, thought, art, history, education, politics, international relations, peace studies, etc.). The final aim of the group is to offer an objective and pluralistic voice through its projects, studies, and publications. Besides these topics, the ties and relations that China has with its neighbours in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as with the rest of the world, will be of great interest for the group.
